Alyson Murphy

Alyson Murphy joined Cornell University in July 2023. Alyson holds a Master’s Degree in School Counseling and worked for a number of years with at-risk and abused and neglected children and adolescents. After moving to the Ithaca area in 2009, Alyson spent a number of years managing the aquatics department at the YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County and ran the Y’s very large and successful swim lesson program. Alyson brings with her the skills and knowledge of running a large youth program in a very high-risk environment and is looking forward to helping improve the safety of programming for minor children at Cornell. The Cornell community has a legal as well as an ethical and moral duty to keep minor participants safe, which in turn advances the university’s mission and reputation. As the Youth Protection Manager, Alyson will work with all program directors to navigate policy and develop plans and training to manage risk and ensure effective, safe programs for children.
