- Please note: Events that are open to the public or to the Cornell community—and are not specifically targeted toward minors—are not required to register with the Children and Youth Safety Office and are not subject to University Policy 8.8. However, the Children and Youth Safety Office may still offer operational assessments and recommendations to support event planning and safety.
- Please be advised: For events where minors will be accompanied by a parent/guardian, teacher, or other designated chaperone (e.g., field trips), event organizers should contact the Children and Youth Safety Office to determine whether consent forms or other requirements apply.
Please note: Programs found to be in violation of the compliance elements of University Policy 8.8 may face consequences including:
- Delays in program start
- Removal of authorized individuals from roles involving interaction with minors
- Cancellation of the program, or
- Revocation of the ability to host such programs in the future
Student organizations found to be noncompliant may also risk loss of organizational funding and/or recognition from Campus Activities and Sorority & Fraternity Life.
Additionally, some violations of the Standards of Behavior for Working with Youth may also constitute violations of New York State law.
