Overnight Programs

Programs with an overnight component must:

  • Prohibit minors of different genders from sharing sleeping accommodations.
  • Prohibit minors and adults from sharing sleeping accommodations, except when a parent or legal guardian is sharing accommodations with their own child.
  • Prohibit minors of different genders from bathing, showering, or changing clothes in the same space; if separate facilities are not feasible, a schedule must be established to ensure separate usage times.

  • Make reasonable attempts to house participants who are 17 years of age or older separately from those who are 16 years of age or younger.
  • Establish curfews appropriate to the age and maturity of participants.
  • Require at least two authorized persons be present during room checks or bed checks.
  • Maintain a documented response procedure for situations in which a participant is not accounted for during curfew checks or bed checks.
  • Orient participants on how to contact and locate authorized persons during overnight hours.
  • Orient participants to facility emergency procedures, including evacuation routes, and conduct emergency drills as appropriate.
