Step One - Activity Assessment

Step 1: Activity Assessment

A youth program is an organized activity or set of activities designed to include minors. Youth programs may take place on or off university premises and may be conducted in person or virtually.

Consider the following questions:

DetailQuestions:
Are any participants under age 18 and not matriculated students?
Is this a planned activity, event, or experience (vs. an incidental interaction)?
Are Cornell faculty, staff, students, or volunteers involved in the activity?
Will the activity involve interaction with or supervision of youth at any point?
Is the activity on Cornell premises OR is it sponsored/hosted by Cornell, even if held elsewhere?

If you answered YES to most of these questions:

Continue to Step 2 - Program Type

If you answered NO to most of these questions:

The activity is likely not a youth program under University Policy 8.8, Protection of Minors and Abuse Reporting.

Not sure?

If you are uncertain whether your activity qualifies as a youth program, contact CYS at youthprotection@cornell.edu before proceeding.
