Step 2: Identify Your Program Type

Most Cornell youth programs fall into one of three categories:

Non-custodial: Cornell provides content but does not supervise youth
Custodial: Cornell is responsible for supervising youth
Third-party: an external organization is operating a youth program on Cornell premises

The categories below help identify which requirements apply to your program type.

Select the ONE category where all boxes apply. If more than one category appears to apply, select the category that best reflects who is primarily responsible for supervising youth participants.

Non-Custodial Programs (Cornell does not supervise youth)

Field Trip to Campus

Box	Trip Details
	Youth arrive with a teacher/parent/chaperone
	Chaperone stays at all times
	Cornell provides content only
	Cornell does not supervise or manage behavior

Community Outreach

Box	Details
	Cornell personnel travel to a school/community location
	Youth remain under site-staff supervision
	Cornell provides instruction/activities only
	Cornell does not supervise or manage behavior

Custodial Programs (Cornell supervises youth)

Day Program

Box	Details
	Youth are dropped off (no chaperone remains)
	Cornell runs the program
	Cornell assumes primary responsibility for participant supervision
	Cornell is responsible for behavior, discipline, and safety
	No overnight stay

Overnight/Residential Program

Box	Details
	Youth are dropped off
	Overnight stay included
	Cornell provides or arranges housing
	Cornell provides 24/7 supervision
	Cornell assumes continuous responsibility for participant care and safety

Internship (Individual Placement)

Box	Details
	Program involves one individual or very small number of participants
	Mentored by Cornell faculty/staff
	Structured educational experience (not employment)
	Cornell employees supervise the participant during program hours

Third-Party Program

Box	Details
	An external (non-Cornell) organization plans and runs the program
	External organization provides staffing and supervision
	Cornell may provide facilities or support services, but does not operate the program
	Cornell does NOT run programming
	Cornell does NOT provide program staff or supervision
