Reporting Abuse at Cornell
Abuse Reporting at Cornell University:
Cornell University has a zero-tolerance policy for abuse and misconduct involving minors. All program directors and authorized persons participating in youth programs are required to report any insstance in which they have direct knowledge or reasonable suspicion of:
- Abuse
- Maltreatment
- Child molestation
- Sexual misconduct
- Inappropriate or suspicious behaviors that may not rise to the level of abuse ("red-flag behaviors")
- Peer-to-Peer sexual activity or abuse
Follow these steps to make a report:
- If the minor is in immediate danger, dial 911; then
Immediately report the concern to both:
- The appropriate campus police or security office (see below),
- AND to the CYS Office at (607) 255-9062.

These reporting obligations do not replace any obligations imposed by New York State law. Individuals who are designated as Mandated Reporters must follow both Cornell's reporting procedures and their legal obligations to report suspected abuse or maltreatment to the New York Statewide Central Register for Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Student Organizations:
If your organization is conducting outreach activities off campus, do not contact campus police or security offices. Instead, immediately contact CYS at (607) 255-9062 for guidance. It may also be appropriate to notify your organization's advisor and the community partner representative responsible for overseeing the outreach activity.
911 should be called in any situation where a minor is in immediate danger.
