Reporting Abuse at Cornell

Abuse Reporting at Cornell University:

All program directors and authorized persons participating in youth programs must immediately report any known or suspected abuse, maltreatment, sexual misconduct, or other concerning behavior involving a minor.

  • Abuse
  • Maltreatment or neglect
  • Child molestation
  • Sexual misconduct
  • Peer-to-peer sexual activity or abuse
  • Concerning, inappropriate, or suspicious behaviors involving a minor, including “red flag” behaviors

How to Make a Report:

Step 1

If a minor is in immediate danger, call 911.

Step 2

Immediately report the concern to:

  • The appropriate campus police or security office (see below); and
  • Children and Youth Safety (CYS) at (607)255-9062

Mandated Reporters

Cornell's reporting requirements do not replace obligations imposed by New York State law. Individuals designated as mandated reporters must follow both Cornell reporting procedures and their legal obligations to report suspected abuse or maltreatment to the New York Statewide Central Register for Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR).

Student Organizations Conducting Off-Campus Activities:

If your organization is conducting outreach activities off campus, do not contact campus police or security offices. Instead, immediately contact CYS at (607) 255-9062 for guidance.

  • The community partner representative overseeing the activity
